It's bright and sunny here in Kansas, but we are in for some more severe t-storms later this evening. Nothing unusual, I'm discovering. Been a boring weekend so far, but it has given me a chance to work on some rewrites and a course I'm taking on copywriting, which I hope will help me bring in a few well needed dollars once I complete it. I'm heading for an all-expense paid trip to California next month. My daughter and her new hubby have invited me to spend a week with them in Temecula so, needless-to-say, I am really excited about this. It will be my first plane trip (on a big plane, that is) literally anywhere, so I can see that God is broadening my horizons. I've flown in a few smaller planes, Cessnas usually, when I was married, since my husband was taking flying lessons at the time. And we did take a trip to Florida once where we actually landed at a small airport owned by the actor, Robert Conrad, if I remember correctly. That was sorta interesting but, since I was suffering from morning sickness, it wasn't all that fun. Hopefully, I won't have that problem on the bigger planes. I'll be taking U.S. Airways. At any rate, I'm really getting excited as the day to leave looms closer. I know I'm not gonna want to return to Kansas after a week in California. I'll probably cry all the way home, especially when I have to leave my daughter, her hubby, and my new step-grandson behind. That'll be the really hard part. I'm hoping I'll be able to pick up a few new books while in California. My daughter is like me and loves to buy books or go to the library, so I'm sure she'll help me squelch my current withdrawal symptoms while I'm there. I so miss having a car and look forward to regaining my independence at some point. Having to depend on others to get around is getting to be a real drag. Well, I won't bore you further. Copy writing is a good career once you get started. Hard work, but enjoyable. Have a good friend who is a copy writer. Life here is boring, too LOL. DH is in Africa and showing no signs of getting home soon. It' s summer time, so its hot and cold running kids time! Have a great day. So I do apologize for missing birthdays, anniversaries and other happy occasions. I send heartfelt hugs to those who have had not so good happen in the past month and half. Dh is now a bi-coastal commuter going from the east coast on Sunday or Monday to Walnut Creek and back home again Thursday or Friday. Fun time is being had by all. Looking forward to those Marriott points and frequent flyer miles. It fell on moi to get the youngest off to camp. Not so bad since I have done this trip before. Not the most fun to drive 90 miles to camp and home again but I was dragging middle kidlet for company on the way home. Eldest joked that he should follow behind in the Camry. Packed the car with stuff for a month. Plastic drawers, duffles, sleeping bag, pillow and stuff. Leave the house bright and early and get by the worse of the area with rush hour traffic. Oh.. going so well, when I'm exiting from one major road and on the exit ramp to enter another major road and EEEK. I feel the car start to lose power. Since it isn't bumper to bumper we're exiting a a good 50 or so miles per hour. Now we've had our car lose power and stall out on local roads. Once with a freak problem which was fixed over December when we were in the States and just a month ago with a short in one wire. I know I'm losing power so I get the car over to the right hand shoulder of the road just before the car stalls. Cars and trucks are not driving past us at over 50 miles per hour. I try to get the car started thinking I'll get the car off the major road and call AAA. No going. I go all of another 100 to 200 feet and the car won't go. Now the youngest needs to get to camp by a certain time... I'm stalled on the road. Call the eldest to come and so I can take THAT car to camp and thinking he'll stay and wait for AAA. The person from AAA was very nice while we try to figure out where exactly I am. I don't know exit numbers. I know roads. She says it could be up to 45 minutes but she'll put a rush on it because of where I broke down. Thus we wait and I leave dh a frantic call. This was after I've talked with our mechanic to let him know that the car will be arriving. Eldest shows up a minute after AAA. Now, this is a good reason to have longer distance towing. We had 3 mile free and now with gas prices it is $4 for every mile after that. I had to give the drive $88 to get the car to our mechanic. Did find out that our Camry is larger than our RAV. It fit all of the youngest stuff with my three kidlets and eldest's gym bag in the trunk. Amazing. So I'm grumbling to camp that I when we get to camp I should already be on the way home. Dh called and eldest talked to him. I think dh was worried I'd gone over the deep end. :) Fast forward to this afternoon, I call our mechanic and ask him how the car is and if we should think about getting rid of it. He goes.. "chewed wires". What? "mostly likely squirrels." I think we gave our mechanic the smile for the day. So.. I'm calmer and not ready to kill dh for leaving me with this mess. How many kids can say they had to travel in two cars to get to camp? But watch out squirrels, I'm on the war path. Will whack any squirrels that get near my cars. :) Aren't you glad I'm back.

What a taxing day you've had :( My DH is still in Africa, and he got to stay in the club where Out of Africa was filmed while he waited on his Visa to go into Darfur. I was sooo jealous...told him to get lots of pics. As for me....same old. Overun by kids, no time, no life other than the one in my head LOL. Hugs* Traci (sending you a big glass of cyber wine!) But hopefully time will pass quickly for you, and they will be home again sooner than you can hope for. But Africa, now there's an interesting trip. Really, Traci, you gotta share some of those pictures when DH makes it home. Anne, it really sounds like you're enjoying one of my typical days, when I had small children and cheap cars. I don't envy you that particular trip to camp, that's for sure. As for the squirrels, I almost wonder if they were rats instead. Hard to say, but my neighbor who just rented a house in the country ended up bringing his fancy sports car back home to mom and dad's because rats had chewed all the wires on it. He got so mad, he decided to move back home as well. It took him awhile to locate new parts for the car to replace those the rats had chewed. At any rate, I hope you don't have that problem again. I am glad you're back. Please keep us updated on your adventures. They are certainly fun to read. ha ha Traci, thanks for the encouraging remarks about copywriting. If I can't make a go of this new field, I don't know what I'll do. I'm still waiting to hear on my disability appeal. If I make enough money writing copy, then I won't even need that. That's my goal, at any rate, so wish me luck. Better yet, pray I'm successful. Thanks. lol Well, ladies, not much going on down here, as you know. It's the intense heat and humidity I'm having trouble with. Nineties aaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll week again. Whew! I can't even stand being outside anymore, other than to jump into an air-conditioned vehicle to go to the store. That's really bad for me, but I reckon' I'll get used to the temps over time. Mom has not been doing so good on and off and then Jose (Ex-husband) got put in the hospital as he has contracted Diabetes so I had NOTH of them in the hospital for a few days.
